What is laser cleaning and how does it work?

The laser cleaning process ensures the removal, by laser ablation, of contaminants, oxides, coatings, primers from metal surfaces.

Laser cleaning can be used onto surfaces like stainless steel, bronze, copper, and aluminium. It is often used to clean engine parts and molds for thermoplastics and thermosets, for rust removal or paint removal before welding.

Depending on the use case, it is possible to use phototermal or photomechanical applications.

Laser cleaning and traditional methods

Laser cleaning is an effective, fast, economical and eco-friendly process. Unlike traditional methods such as sandblasting or chemical removal, it is damage and residue-free.

Laser cleaning? Try us!

Here at Fujikura European Engineering Centre (EEC) we dispose of high quality fibre laser sources, made in Japan. Besides our innovative technologies, our Centre hosts an application laboratory, where we can put at use our long-time experience and our technical expertise to create tailored solutions to specific demands and applications. In order to do that, we provide preliminary free-of-charge feasibility analysis and demo tests.
